Hopefully the improvement outweighs the cost. Had a nose at the Pederson modification and is probably something that I'll look to in the nearfuture if I decide on an SME, although it seems expensive for what it is.

He said small children and expensive carts don't mix well, so he is shelving his vinyl for the time being. He's only sold it as he is having to move house and won't have a dedicated listening room. He used it with a Sonneteer Sedley/Kontrapunkt A and said it sounded phenomenal.
#Incognito sme tonearm wire full
The guy who sold it to me had an RB250 with full Origin Live mods. I'll post some pictures of the beauty later, being the proud dad that I am! It has landed and is set up, with out the arm of course. Anyway, see here: & Good luck!Įdited to add: Also look at the SME M2 tonearm (if you can find it used)which was brought out as SME's answer to some of the ridiculous claims made about the Origin Live Silver hence the standard SME M2's retail price whichis right in the OL Silver's territory. Without it, their decks are under-performing, full stop.
#Incognito sme tonearm wire upgrade
IMO, all Michell Orbe & Gyro TT users should have this upgrade on their decks.

You might also want to consider the Pederson armboard upgrade which IMO, is a must for all Orbe and Gyro owners if you really want to hear what the Michell decks can do with good tonearms on-board. It opens up the sound much more than the stock internal wire which is sourced here in Lawrieville. One thing you might want to consider if you get the SME arms, is to have an internal tonearm rewire, professionally done using pure silver wire, and get the cartridge tags in the same silver wire as well. Looking at your budget, a used SME 309 appears to fit the bill perfectly. However, the arms of choice for me would be either an SME 309 or an SME IV as the SME V is way off your price scale. Yes, together with a couple of friends, we tried the Origin Live Silver & Tecnoarm on the same deck using the same cartridge and the Origin live Silver could not compete even though it is much more expensive than the Tecnoarm. I was thinking of the Michell Tecnoarm as it would probably synergise well with the deck.Īny Orbe or even Gyro users care to share their thoughts?īy all means look at a Tecnoarm as I feel it outperforms the much hyped but average performing Origin Live Silver. I have a maximum budget of £450 to spend on a new or used arm.

The signal leads are therefore shielded, but held at a fixed distance from the screen. The original Orbe I was after fell through, but I've managed to buy another Orbe/VC, but without the arm. The external section of the cable is run through a Faraday cage assembly inside which, protected by a spiral polythene tube, run the left and right channel signal leads. The heart of the assembly is a gold plated aluminium slug, situated at the base of the arm pillar, to which all earths are connected, grounding the various components of the arm assembly without the use of additional ground wires.

The Incognito cable features a continuous cable run from cartridge tags to phono plug. Here is what I found at the Incognito web page:Ī one piece, cartridge clip to phono sockets tonearm cable, specifically designed for all forms of Rega based tonearms. Sorry John, I did some searching and I could not find ir either (it was some years ago), I will try to explain how this counterweight worked:Ī) It was made from a different metal than the original oneī) It was not "centered", it was off-cenetered in order to have more weight at the bottom of the tonearmĬ) It had a small screww to attach it to the arm tube, instalation was really easy.Īs for the incognito kit, not sure if it had a Litz wiring, silver maybe?
